Biography

Michelle (she/her) is a graduate student in Computer Science at the University of Montreal and Mila – Quebec AI Institute advised by Prof. Christopher Pal and Prof. Oliver Sonnentag. Her research applies on developing novel deep learning and computer vision methods for remote sensing applications, such as greenhouse gas quantification, ecological restoration, and smallholder farm mapping, using techniques like ViTs, SAM, and segmentation models. Additional interdisciplinary research curiosities include examining AI’s societal impact, intersection with sustainability, particularly in governance and policy. She is also committed to fostering community and inclusion in machine learning spaces and promoting reproducibility, open-source practices, and science communication.
